Artist DAVID FOOTE, “In Residence,” at 20 PINE September 18th-October 18th 2008
New York, NY, September 16th, 2008-Contemporary artist David Foote will launch a month-long exhibition at the penthouse of 20 PINE, The Collection, a couture concept in lifestyle living featuring interior design by Armani/Casa with a reception Thursday, October 2ns hosted by Whitewall Magazine, Porsche Design The Essence and Kwiat Diamonds.
At the age of 18, David Foote arrived in the United States from Caracas, Venezuela to attend the prestigious Parson’s School of Design, where he attained BFAS in both Animation and Illustration. A current resident of Brooklyn, Foote held his first solo exhibit of paintings and portraits, “New Girls” in April of 2008 at L Gallery Studio. Since his enormously popular debut, in which the bulk of his exhibition sold out in a night, Foote’s work has become instantly recognizable—eerie and elegant co-joined faces that make a single organic shape—“viewed as a collection, [they] emerge as one in the same and one in a million” - New York Magazine. His technique consists of the meticulous use of dip felt pen filled with black ink and the usage of white acrylic paint.
Though Foote’s biography reads like a true renaissance man--he is qualified and has worked as a motions graphics designer, a commercial filmmaker and a fashion illustrator, this month-long exhibition at 20 Pine The Collection marks his first protracted foray into the world of contemporary art. Curated by rising Belgian star curator Tim Goossens of P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, Foote’s paintings complement the zen-like atmosphere of the Armani/Casa designed penthouse. A mix of “New Girls” and a preview of his new series, “Cloud Readings,” debuting in November, the eight paintings and fifteen sketches have found a perfect repository at 20 Pine.
The penthouse will be open for private appointments for the duration of the show, and on October 2nd, Whitewall Magazine, Porche Design the Essence, Kwiat Diamonds and a select group of New York tastemakers including Andres Santo Domingo, Annie Churchill, Antonia Thompson, Amanda Hearst, Carol Han, Connor Paolo, Dalia Oberlander, Eva Jeanbart Lorenzotti, Jennifer Creel, Justin Giunta, Norman Reedus and Valerie Boster will host a private reception to fete the artist.
